About Paul

VW.Bro Paul Reeves was born in 1957 at his grandparent’s home in Tilbury while his father was serving with the Royal Air Force in Cambridgeshire. He was the first of four children. His brother went on to serve as a London Firefighter, his sister was a Metropolitan Police Constable, his youngest sister is a School Training Assistant.

Shortly after his birth Paul’s father was posted to Aden, Yemen and aged 6 months he and his mother left England to join him.

RAF life involved extensive travelling, before he was 16 years old VW. Bro Paul had spent a year in Aden, three years in Cyprus and twelve years living on RAF camps in the UK. He had lived at thirteen addresses during that time and attended eight schools.

Aged 17 years he joined the Metropolitan Police Cadets in 1974 and was attested as a Police Constable in 1975. He served at Bow, the Isle of Dogs and Limehouse before joining the CID and transferring to West Ham and then Romford. On promotion to Sergeant in 1985 he transferred to City Road where he served in uniform, running a plain clothes Crime Squad and as the Vice Sergeant, tackling prostitution. After four years he returned to the CID as a Detective Sergeant at Ilford, later transferred to the Murder Squads at Edmonton investigating murders and serious crime in North & East London for the next seven years.

In 1997 his father was terminally ill so he transferred to Dagenham CID to be closer to his parents’. In the eight years before he retired, after 30 years’ of service, he undertook general CID duties before leading the plain clothes Crime Squad, Drugs Squad and as a Detective Inspector. Finally establishing a highly successful Intelligence Unit before retiring in 2005.

In 1992, he was initiated into Spero Lodge No. 6825 at Chingford, Installed as Master in 1999; he had the pleasure of being the Millennial Master of the Lodge. The Lodge’s APGM, later our ProvGM, RW. Bro John M. Webb, attended his Installation and saw something in the young Master, appointing him as ProvGStwd four months later.

Promotions followed in 2003 to ProvAGDC (which he held for two years) and ProvDepGDC in 2008. After two years as a ProvAGDC and three years as a ProvDepGDC completing over 200 official visits escorting APGMs, the late DepPGM and the RW ProvGM, John M. Webb and was appointed to Grand Rank (PAGDC) in 2011.

He was appointed to ProvGDC in 2012 and APGM in March 2015. However, following the retirement of RW.Bro John M. Webb that same year he was appointed as DepPGM by the new ProvGM, the late Rodney Lister Bass, OBE.

VW.Bro Paul was Exalted into the Royal Arch in Earl of Warwick Chapter No. 2504 in 1997. He was MEZ in 2005 and was offered appointment as a ProvGStwd in 2006, he accepted, but was then asked to accept ProvAGDC instead (after a Companion had to withdraw) and was appointed as such in 2006. He was later appointed as the RA ProvGSwdB in 2010 and in 2016 to the RA Grand Rank of PGStB.

He is a subscribing member of Spero Lodge No. 6825, Essex Provincial Stewards Lodge No. 8665, Essex Masters Lodge No. 3256 (of which he was Installed as Master in 2019 and again in 2020), North Essex Masters Lodge No. 9831, West Essex Lodge No. 2561, Bear & Ragged Staff Lodge No. 8527, Earl of Warwick Chapter No. 2504, Columbia Chapter No. 2397 (MetGL), Essex First Principals Chapter No. 3256 and an honorary member of Essex Provincial Grand Stewards’ Chapter No. 8665.    

He is a member of the Mark Degree, the Royal Ark Mariners, Knights Templar (including the Malta Degree) and is the current ProvGSwdB of the Royal Order of Scotland (City of London).

Since 1986 he has, when time permits, been a keen genealogist with over 4,000 individuals in his extended family tree. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers & Tobacco Blenders (as were some of his pipe-making ancestors) and he is a member of the Essex Provincial Clay Shooting Association.

Duties: Since the sad passing of the RW ProvGM in July 2020 VW.Bro Paul has been designated the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge and is required to discharge all of the duties of a ProvGM together with the duties of the DepPGM.
