About Charles

Charles was born in Dalston, London in May 1949. Most of his working life he has worked in the Entertainment Industry first as a Performer progressing to Theatre Producer. His Theatre work has included many U.K. Provincial and International Theatre tours with his career highlights presenting several West End Productions, the most notable is ‘Jolson –the Musical’ which received the coveted Laurence Oliver Award for Best Musical.

Running parallel to Charles’ professional life, he has been pleased to use his Theatrical skills and experience to Produce various Masonic shows and events including the memorable 2011 Essex Festival Banquet at London’s Guildhall and ‘Proms at Freemasons Hall’ in 2017 for the Province of Essex with several more exciting events in the pipeline.

Aviation has been a long-standing interest, he has held a Private Pilot’s Licence for more than 30 years and still enjoys flying when Masonic duties permit!

Initiated into Tabula Rotunda Lodge No. 8607 at Southend in 1979 he became Worshipful Master in 1991 and has been an active member for more than 40 years. In 1999 Charles joined the popular ‘show business’ Chelsea Lodge No.3098 where he became Worshipful Master in 2016 just at the time when the Lodge was featured in the Sky TV series ‘Inside the Freemasons’.

Charles’ portfolio within the Provincial Executive includes the organisation and management of major events on behalf of the Province.

A proud member of Essex Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge, Essex Masters Lodge No.3256, North Essex Masters Lodge No.9831 and Bear & Ragged Staff No. 8527

In 1993 he was appointed as a Provincial Grand Steward in the Province of Essex promoted to Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon in 1998 followed by Past Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer the following year. In March 2010 he enjoyed one year as an active Provincial Junior Grand Warden.

Receiving Grand Rank in 2004 he was appointed Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and promoted in 2015 to Past Junior Grand Deacon. Following his appointment as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master in March 2018 he was subsequently promoted to Past Senior Grand Deacon in 2019.

Exalted into Tabula Rotunda Chapter in 1990 where he served as MEZ in 1995 and again in 2015. He received promotion to Provincial Grand Chapter Steward in 1998 and promoted to Royal Arch Grand Rank in 2018. He is a Member of Essex Provincial Grand Stewards Chapter and Essex First Principals Chapter.

Charles is Past Master of White Stone Mark Lodge, Past Commander of White Stone Royal Ark Mariners and a Member of Thames Estuary Royal & Select Masters.
